Bob Odenkirk returns as suburban husband, father and workaholic assassin Hutch Mansell in the new chapter to Nobody, the hit 2021 bare-knuckle action-thriller that opened at number one at the U.S. box office. Universal has just released the fun-filled trailer for Nobody 2. The follow-up to the original film that put a twist on the action genre twists things even further as it plays out surprisingly like a violent send-up of National Lampoon’s Vacation (complete with “Holiday Road” blasting in the background).

The description reads,
“Four years after he inadvertently took on the Russian mob, Hutch remains $30 million in debt to the criminal organization and is working it off with an unending string of hits on international thugs.

As much as he likes the slam-bang action of his “job,” Hutch and his wife Becca (International Emmy nominee Connie Nielsen) find themselves overworked and drifting apart. So, they decide to take their kids (Gage Munroe, Paisley Cadorath) on a short getaway to Wild Bill’s Majestic Midway and Waterpark, the one and only place where Hutch and his brother Harry (Grammy and Emmy nominee RZA) went on a vacation as kids.

With Hutch’s dad (Emmy winner Christopher Lloyd) in tow, the family arrives in the small tourist town of Plummerville (“Plummerville is Summerville!”), eager for some fun in the sun.

But when a minor encounter with some town bullies yanks the family into the crosshairs of a corrupt theme-park operator (John Ortiz; Fast and Furious franchise, Bumblebee) and his shady sheriff (Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Colin Hanks), Hutch finds himself the focus of the most unhinged, blood-thirsty crime boss he (or anyone) has ever encountered (Emmy winning and Oscar nominated screen icon, Sharon Stone).”

Nobody 2 is an 87North/Eighty Two Films/Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment production, directed by Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for UsThe Big 4). The screenplay is by returning writer Derek Kolstad (John WickDie Hart) and by Aaron Rabin (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), from a story by Derek Kolstad, based on characters created by Derek Kolstad.

This film’s returning producers are 87North founders Kelly McCormick (Bullet TrainThe Fall Guy) and David Leitch (Bullet TrainThe Fall Guy); Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment founder Marc Provissiero (No Hard Feelings, PEN15), Eighty Two Films founder Braden Aftergood (Hell or High WaterSamaritan); and Bob Odenkirk (Better Call SaulBreaking Bad). The executive producer is David Hyman.

Pack your bags for when Nobody 2 hits theaters on August 15.

Nobody 2 and The Phoenician Scheme ratings revealed https://www.joblo.com/nobody-2-rating/ https://www.joblo.com/nobody-2-rating/#respond Thu, 10 Apr 2025 00:02:58 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=835059 The rating for Nobody 2 starring Bob Odenkirk has been revealed alongside the rating for Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme.

Nobody 2, rating, The Phoenician Scheme

Nobody 2 has officially received an R rating for “strong bloody violence, and language throughout.” You likely never had any doubt, but it’s nice to have it confirmed. Additionally, Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme has landed a PG-13 rating for “violent content, bloody images, some sexual material, nude images, and smoking throughout.

Our own Chris Bumbray caught the first trailer for Nobody 2 at CinemaCon. It features Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk) taking his family on vacation. When his daughter gets picked on, and his son gets beaten up, Hutch is ready to defend his family. Unfortunately, the resort is run by an infamous crime syndicate, and they mark the family for death. The trailer hasn’t made its way online yet, but hopefully, we’ll be seeing that soon because it sounds like a blast.

In addition to Odenkirk, the sequel will also see the return of Connie Nielsen as Hutch’s wife, Becca, as well as Christopher Lloyd as Hutch’s father, a retired FBI agent. Sharon Stone is playing the main villain of the sequel, with Colin Hanks also onboard as a “corrupt sheriff with none-too-nice ambitions.

Our own Chris Bumbray spoke with Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto last year, who said that Odenkirk and Lloyd are forces to be reckoned with. “I underestimated just how crazy Bob Odenkirk is! Honestly, Bob is a 61-year-old man and his dedication and the training that he undergoes…man….like, I’m embarrassed,” he said. “I’m significantly younger than him and I get tired by the time we are shooting.

As for Lloyd, Tjahjanto said, “Man, he is the funniest guy ever! Honestly, I was so worried cause he’s like…you know, [he’s] in [his] twilight age. But I’ve never seen an 85-year-old man having so much fun! He hasn’t lost any of his spark. I see the same guy playing Doc Brown and all that stuff. His improvisation and his ad-libbing skills are off the charts. When you’re dealing with an elderly actor or a senior actor, you think you should be more delicate, but not with him. I had fun with him. He’s gonna be great as well.

As for The Phoenician Scheme, the film stars Benicio del Toro as Zsa-zsa Korda, an infamous businessman involved in international intrigue with assassins out to kill him. But after surviving his sixth plane crash, he names his daughter, who is a nun, as his successor. Mia Threapleton plays the daughter, and Michael Cera also stars. The rest of the ensemble cast includes Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Riz Ahmed, Richard Ayoade, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Friend, Mathieu Amalric, and Hope Davis. Following a screening at CinemaCon, the first trailer for the film was released online just a few days later.

The Phoenician Scheme will hit theaters on May 30th, followed by Nobody 2 on August 15th.

Universal screens action-packed trailer for Nobody 2, plus a look at Jordan Peele’s Him at CinemaCon https://www.joblo.com/nobody-2-cinemacon/ https://www.joblo.com/nobody-2-cinemacon/#respond Wed, 02 Apr 2025 23:59:10 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=833843 Universal shows off an action-packed trailer for Nobody 2 at Cinemacon, along with a look at Him, a horror film produced by Jordan Peele.

Back in 2021, actor/comedian Bob Odenkirk – who is best known for playing the role of con artist turned lawyer Saul Goodman on the TV series on Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul – made the unexpected move of playing Hutch Mansell, retired government assassin (who is, of course, pulled back into the dangerous life) in the action thriller Nobody. Doing the unexpected worked out, as Nobody was a success, making $57.5 million at the box office on a budget of $16 million. That was enough to get a sequel greenlit – and Nobody 2, which is scheduled to reach theatres on August 15th, was promoted during the Universal panel at the CinemaCon event today!

The audience was treated to the first trailer for Nobody 2, which finds Hutch taking his family (including Christopher Lloyd) on vacation. The trailer even uses the song Holiday Road from National Lampoon’s Vacation. While there, Hutch’s daughter is getting picked on, Hutch’s son intervenes, which provides him with a black eye for his trouble. Cue Odenkirk unleashing the beast, but it turns out that the resort is run by an infamous crime syndicate and they mark the family for death. There is lots of great action, and it even teases the return of RZA as Harry Mansell, Hutch’s adopted brother, who has a kick-ass sword fight with the villains. Sharone Stone plays a “stone cold villainess” at the head of the crime family. Our own Chris Bumbray said it looks huge and like they put a lot of money into this one, with at least two big hand-to-hand scenes similar to the bus scene from the first movie.

Universal’s CinemaCon panel also gave audiences a tease for Him, a mysterious-looking sports-adjacent feature about selling your soul to become the best in the game: Tyriq Withers and Marlon Wayans star, with Justin Tipping directing and Jordan Peele producing. In Him, Withers plays a college player sidelined by an injury who’s given the opportunity to be coached by Marlon Wayans, who plays a legend. It’s a sports/ horror flick. During the presentation, Marlon joked, “It’s a lot like Rudy.” To which Tyriq added, “It’s nothing like Rudy.” Marlon joked, “Okay, but you do remind me of Radio.

Universal gave the CinemaCon crowd a first look at the film. Bumbray says Him looks beautifully shot. He adds that it looks like a huge change of pace for Wayans. The film appears to be about Wayans’ character, who sold his soul to be the best, and Tyriq’s character is his successor. Chris says Him looks terrific!

It wouldn’t be a Universal panel without hype for the next chapter of Jon M. Chu’s Wicked For Good. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo took the CinemaCon stage with Marc Platt and Jon M. Chu. This moment is a significant victory lap for the group. They’re happy to have split the Wicked story into two parts. The first was a massive hit, and the Broadway adaptation recently had its best year ever.

Chu screened a Wicked For Good trailer for the crowd, picking up where the first left off. The sequel takes place simultaneously as The Wizard of Oz, but we don’t see Dorothy or the fate of many characters. We see glimpses of the Tin Man, Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion, but from afar.

Nobody 2, CinemaCon

CinemaCon has officially kicked off in Las Vegas and our own Chris Bumbray is on the scene. While strolling the halls, he caught the first teaser poster for Nobody 2 on display, the highly anticipated sequel to the surprisingly great action thriller starring Bob Odenkirk. You can check out the Nobody 2 poster below.

A clenched bloody fist, some bracelet charms, and a Hawaiian shirt. What is Hutch Mansell up to this time?

His improvisation and his ad-libbing skills are off the charts. When you’re dealing with an elderly actor or a senior actor, you think you should be more delicate, but not with him. I had fun with him. He’s gonna be great as well.

Bumbray was a big fan of first Nobody, calling it the “best commercial action movie we’ve gotten in a long while.” He also had plenty of praise for the leading man. “Odenkirk really goes to town in this one, raking up a body count that probably doubles that of all three Taken movies combined,” Bumbray wrote in his review. “But it’s not just mindless action. Odenkirk makes you care about the character and his family, with him having a warm, affectionate and believable relationship with his on-screen wife, played by the great Connie Nielsen, and his kids. We get that he loves them and doesn’t want to disappoint them, but once the killing starts it ain’t gonna stop.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

We may see more from Nobody 2 with Universal’s CinemaCon presentation later in the week. The sequel will hit theaters on August 15th.

Everything We Know About Nobody 2

Back in 2021, actor/comedian Bob Odenkirk – who is best known for playing the role of con artist turned lawyer Saul Goodman on the TV series on Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul – made the unexpected move of playing a retired government assassin (who is, of course, pulled back into the dangerous life) in the action thriller Nobody. Doing the unexpected worked out, as Nobody was a success, making $57.5 million at the box office on a budget of $16 million. That was enough to get a sequel greenlit – and now that production has started on that sequel, we figured this was a good time to put together a list of Everything We Know About Nobody 2!

SCRIPT

Scripted by John Wick writer Derek Kolstad, Nobody saw Odenkirk playing Hutch Mansell, an office worker and family man who proves to be a capable fighter when facing off with a group of drunk criminals on a bus. He’s a bit too capable, as one of the thugs dies… and since the dead guy was the brother of a Russian crime lord, Hutch is now in deep trouble with the Russian mob. Luckily, he’s a retired government assassin who hasn’t lost any of his skills, and he’s able to get back-up from his elderly father David, who is also a retired government agent, and his equally skilled brother Harry. Few details have been revealed about the plot of Nobody 2, but we know the screenplay has been crafted by the team of Kolstad, Odenkirk, Aaron Rabin (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), and Umair Aleem (Extraction and Kate) this time around, and that one of the new characters is a “corrupt sheriff with none-too-nice ambitions.”

CAST

Odenkirk is reprising the role of Hutch Mansell, with Christopher Lloyd confirmed to be back as his father David and Connie Nielsen returning as Hutch’s wife Becca. It remains to be seen if Gage Munroe and/or Paisley Cadorath will be back as Hutch and Becca’s children, Blake and Abby, or if RZA will be appearing as Harry. It has been announced that Sharon Stone has joined the cast of Nobody 2 to be play a “stone cold villainess,” while Colin Hanks is playing that aforementioned corrupt sheriff. John Ortiz is also in there, playing an unspecified role.

Looking forward to Nobody 2 at the start of 2022, Odenkirk – who survived a widow-maker heart attack during the summer of 2021 – told Empire that his goal with this one was to “kick more ass than I ever have.” Nielsen told Screen Rant she was excited to get to work on the follow-up because, “Who doesn’t love Bob? Bob is just so cool and fun and sweet, and he has unbelievable energy. I adore him. That guy is just so great. And then, on top of that, you have this family again. I’m a family person and I love depicting the tensions inside of a family; the natural tensions, but also the sweetness that underlies the love that connects all of these people together. This is a great family. It’s a great story that I look forward to returning to, definitely.” Nielsen also hinted to Collider that the sequel could explore Hutch and Becca’s history together, saying, “One of the things we were talking about when we were shooting Nobody was, you know, why did they meet in Italy? And what was she doing there? And what is it that we don’t know about her story?

Everything We Know About Nobody 2

DIRECTOR

While the first film was directed by Ilya Naishuller, for the sequel Naishuller has passed the helm over to Timo Tjahjanto, who is known for making brutal films in both the action and horror genres. Tjahjanto’s previous credits include May the Devil Take You, The Night Comes for Us, May the Devil Take You Too, The Big 4, and segments of the anthologies The ABCs of Death, V/H/S/2, Portals, and V/H/S/94. With Kimo Stamboel, he also co-directed the films Macabre, Killers, and Headshot. If the action sequences in Nobody 2 are on the level of some of Tjahjanto’s past works, we’re in for something awesome here.

We recently got to speak with Tjahjanto as he glowed about his cast for Nobody 2. Tjahjanto proclaimed, “I underestimated just how crazy Bob Odenkirk is! Honestly, Bob is a 61-year-old man and his dedication and the training that he undergoes…man….like, I’m embarrassed. I’m significantly younger than him and I get tired by the time we are shooting. Hollywood schedules are relentless! I thought, ‘More money, more time.’ It’s nothing like that. It’s this crazy gauntlet of heavy scenes. Bob is a beast. I think you’re gonna like it. All I can say right now is that the theme is ‘family,’ and that’s what we’re trying to keep in mind while making this sequel.” When the subject of Christopher Lloyd came up, Tjahjanto had this to say about the veteran actor, “Man, he is the funniest guy ever! He’s gonna be great as well.”

PRODUCTION & RELEASE

Nobody 2 started filming in Winnipeg, Manitoba on August 6th and wrapped principal photography by the end of September. The film is aiming for a theatrical release on August 15, 2025, courtesy of Universal Pictures. Odenkirk is producing the sequel alongside Kelly McCormick and David Leitch, who are producing through their Universal-based company 87North. Marc Provissiero of Odenkirk Provissiero Entertainment and Braden Aftergood of Eighty Two Films are also producing.

Here’s the first image from the film:

2025 Movie Preview

With 2024 coming to a close, it’s time to start looking to the future for our cinema needs. What does the year hold in store for us cinephiles? While 2024 held some surprise hits, giant blockbusters, and small films that could, it’s looking like 2025 movie releases will hold more of the same. We can hope that the good fortune that Hollywood has brought us will continue into the new year and keep theater attendance up. Here’s our 2025 Movie Preview:

Den of Thieves: Pantera

Den Of Thieves: Pantera – January 10

Gerard Butler is back chasing down diamond thieves on the streets of Europe. He stumbles across the planning of the largest diamond heist ever planned. If you liked the first movie, then this will probably be more of the same. I’m personally happy that Gerard Butler is making some fun B-movie action films like back in the day. Plane was fun, and I’m excited to see these types of films at the theater again.

better man

Better Man – January 10

A biopic about UK pop star Robbie Williams as we see his childhood all the way through his superstardom. Robbie will be playing himself, but how do you do that without it being weird? What if you make it so he’s a chimp? Sure. With Pharrell releasing his biopic as a Lego movie and now Robbie Williams replacing himself with a CGI chimp it seems biopics are really trying to gain quirk appeal.

Back in Action, release, Netflix, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diax, first-look images

Back In Action – January 17

Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement and teaming up with Jamie Foxx for this Netflix original film. They play former CIA agents who are pulled back in when their identities are exposed. While I’m glad to see Diaz back on screen after a decade away, it’s odd that this generic spy action movie did it. Maybe just the idea of being in a movie with Jamie Foxx again was enough.

Michelle Yeoh, Star Trek: Section 31, first look

Star Trek: Section 31 – January 24

This direct to Paramount+ film is a spin off from Star Trek: Discovery starring Michelle Yeoh as her character Philippa Georgiou. This was originally planned as a series, but after COVID-19 delays, it was scrapped. Later they revived the idea for an original movie. Star Trek has always been a beloved franchise but with new movies going direct to streaming, will we ever see them return to the big screen?

bridget jones, isla fisher, jim broadbent, nico parker

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy – February 13

For the first time in nine years, Bridget Jones is back! Only this time, it will be on Peacock in the United States and then in theaters everywhere else in the world. Seems backwards but okay. Bridget Jones is now a single mom and trying to figure out how that works when you’re trying to get back into the dating pool. Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant return, along with some other familiar faces. Are we past the Bridget Jones fandom, or is there still more life in this franchise?

Captain America: Brave New World, Red Hulk

Captain America: Brave New World – February 14

After the events of Falcon And The Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie is donning the shield as the new Captain America. Harrison Ford steps in for the late William Hurt as the new President Ross, who has a big red secret to share. Marvel only had one release last summer, and it seemed to work really well for them. Let’s see if something without Hugh Jackman’s claws still registers for Marvel fans.

2025 Movie Preview

Mickey 17 – March 7

The new film from Bong Joon-ho sees Robert Pattinson sent on a space mission because he is seen as expendable. With technology, he can be regenerated if something goes wrong. This time, something goes wrong, and he begins to experience an existential crisis. This darkly comedic film looks like a good time as we see Mickey die in numerous different ways and still have to get up to go to work the next day.

black bag

Black Bag – March 14

Steven Soderberg’s spy thriller is coming out with no details on the plot. With a cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, and Pierce Brosnan, you can bet lots of people will be interested in checking it out. Soderberg has always had an interesting take on just about any film he releases, and this will be no different.

Snow White

Snow White – March 21

Disney continues its trend of doing live-action remakes of its old animated films. This one caused a stir when it was announced, as people seemed divided on how to handle the seven dwarfs aspect of the film. Ultimately, the dwarves will be completely CGI. It will be interesting to see how this plays in a modern culture. Expect some new songs, and Gal Gadot will be playing the evil queen, which is inspired casting compared to the look of the original character.

2025 Movie Preview

A Minecraft Movie – April 4

With Super Mario Bros. and the Sonic movies being big hits, it’s no surprise that the hugely popular game Minecraft would be getting its own movie. Jack Black once again jumps on board to play Steve, the generic character most players take control of when booting up Minecraft. Jason Mamoa, Jennifer Coolidge, and Kate McKinnon round out the cast as random characters are pulled into the cubic world and need the help of an expert crafter to get home. Seems very Jumanji.

The Accountant 2, release date

The Accountant 2 – April 25

I don’t think anyone saw this sequel coming. In the first film, Ben Affleck played a neuro-divergent accountant who had a side job as a hitman. The film was a modest hit but nothing that would seem to warrant a sequel. Some other familiar faces from the first one return.

Thunderbolts*

Thunderbolts* – May 2

The second of Marvel’s offerings this year sees a bunch of cast-off characters from previous Marvel films being rounded up for a new agency. Yelena will be leading the team of previous supervillains who are now taking jobs for the government. Of course, this will be complicated by a lot of in-fighting and some unexpected speedbumps. The trailer makes this look like a lot of fun so here’s hoping it will give MCU fans some laughs while providing some great action scenes.

2025 Movie Preview

Lilo & Stitch – May 23

This is the second of Disney’s live-action remakes. Stitch crash-lands on Earth and is adopted by a young girl. Hijinks ensue as others come looking for him. The original had a great sense of humor, and the trailers showing Stitch invading other Disney properties were great. I have no idea if this will translate well into live-action, but kids will probably love it.

mission impossible

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – May 23

This was originally titled Dead Reckoning Part II, but after the last film underperformed, the title was quickly changed. It will continue the storyline from the last film, and we see Ethan Hunt trying to stop the deadly AI from causing worldwide chaos. Of course in order to shut it down, they have to make their way to the submarine that is crashed on the ocean floor.

Karate Kid: Legends

Karate Kid: Legends – May 30

The franchise returns to the big screen as we see Daniel from the original and Mr. Han from the 2010 “remake” join forces to mentor a new student. It’s a strange crossing of the streams which retcons the remake into being set in the same continuity. With Cobra Kai just ending when this hits theaters, will fans even care enough to go check it out? Fans of the original movie got their nostalgia fix with the series. Are there people who have nostalgia for the 2010 movie?

Ballerina

From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina – June 6

The spin-off of the John Wick films hits the big screen. We were introduced to the Ballerinas in John Wick 3. Now they get a film all their own while Keanu Reeves will still make an appearance since this is set during that time period. Ana de Armas takes over the role of Eve as she looks to get revenge on the people who killed her family. The intricate world of John Wick is fascinating to explore, and this gives us a chance to see even more of it.

2025 Movie Preview

Elio – June 13

An animated film from Disney that follows Elio. He’s a young space fanatic who gets tasked with saving the universe. They have been struggling to come up with animated films that really stick with audiences that aren’t already established Pixar properties. The shine of the early Pixar films has really dimmed after Disney bought them. Hopefully we can see Disney regain its footing with animated films like we used to have.

How to Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon – June 13

Dreamworks seems to be taking a cue from Disney and remaking some of their more popular animated properties. We’re getting another round of dragons as we see the first meeting of Hiccup and Toothless. Again. Not sure if this trend will ever end, but at least Dreamworks doesn’t have as deep of a catalog as Disney. When can we expect to see a live-action Kung Fu Panda?

Jurassic World Rebirth, Jurassic Park

Jurassic World: Rebirth – July 2

Scarlett Johanssen is taking the lead role this time around. No one seems to have learned any lesson about bringing dinosaurs back to life. This time it looks like explorers have to go in to get DNA samples from some prehistoric animals to help cure a disease. Universal really just wants to see if there is any juice left to squeeze out of this fruit. It may be time to let it sleep for a few decades before heading back in.

Superman

Superman – July 11

James Gunn takes his stab at the Man of Steel as the DC Universe reboots itself on-screen once again. Reports are that Gunn held an early screening for WB execs and that it did not go well. That could be internet fodder, but it doesn’t instill a lot of hope for the new version of the DCU. With the DC shows on the CW just wrapping up, we’ll have to see if Gunn’s Superman will connect with comic fans. The recent trailer seemed to gain a lot of views very quickly, so we at least know that fans are interested.

The Smurfs

The Smurfs Movie – July 18

Those magical little blue creatures will grace theater screens once again. This time, the film will be fully animated and musical. Paramount/Nickelodeon will take on the film, and it seems to be inspired by the popularity of the Troll movies. Rhianna will voice Smurfette and be joined by Nick Offerman, John Goodman, Kurt Russell, Dan Levy, and Hannah Waddingham.

fantastic four first steps

The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25

Marvel’s first family finally makes their way into the MCU. While they have been on-screen before as part of Fox’s Marvel movies, this time, we’ll see what the MCU has in store for the group. Marvel’s third film in six months will really test if audiences are in superhero fatigue or not. The early footage shown at Comicon seems fun, so hopefully, it will bring something new.

Liam Neeson, The Naked Gun remake

Naked Gun – August 1

Liam Neeson is hoping to try something drastically different than we’ve seen from him before. He has some big shoes to fill, as Leslie Nielsen based the whole second half of his career on the original Naked Gun. It will be hard to see anyone else trying to play that role. Plus, does that type of comedy have a place anymore?

Freakier Friday

Freakier Friday – August 8

Disney’s calendar of releases this year is crazy, as we see the reteaming of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The last film was a remake of an old Disney Classic. Now, twenty-one years later, we are getting a sequel. Expect more body-swapping jokes as the Lindsay Lohan resurgence seems to be taking shape. She’s been on an upswing lately, and hopefully, we can see her get a victory lap as she has matured.

Nobody

Nobody 2 – August 15

Somehow, Bob Odenkirk became an action star after starring in Nobody back in 2021. Now, we get to see some more middle-aged dad action as he returns for this sequel. The first movie really worked to show what appears to be an ordinary man who decides to get back into a life he left a long time ago. Now that we have seen him for what he really is, here’s hoping for more action and more Christopher Lloyd running around with a shotgun.

Downton Abbey a new era review

Downton Abbey 3 – September 12

The third film spin-off of the popular period drama. Many of the cast return to once again play their characters, showing the divide between the upper class and the working class. This drama captivated audiences when it first premiered, and both previous films have been big hits. It only makes sense to keep it going with another film.

Tron Ares

Tron: Ares – October 10

We’re traveling back into the world of Tron. Jeff Bridges is back, along with a slew of other familiar faces like Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters, and Jared Leto. This time, a program is sent from the digital world to the real world. Each Tron film so far has pushed the boundaries in terms of special effects and technical marvels. Let’s see what they come up with this time.

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat 2 – October 24

We’re heading back to the arcade, so get your quarters ready. The reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise continues as our heroes are heading back to Outland to continue the fight for all existence. The last film was released during the pandemic, so a true gauge of the popularity is hard to judge, but audiences seem to have a positive response. During the initial film franchise run, the second entry pushed it off a cliff. We can hope they learned their lesson.

Now You See Me 3, release

Now You See Me 3 – November 14

Another entry into the magic mystery franchise is in the pipeline. All of our sleight-of-hand artists are returning, but no plot has been released so far. The previous movies have gained an audience through their unique use of stage magic and illusions to foil their adversaries. It is a fun and interesting way of doing a mystery based action film. If it lives up to the previous entries, then audiences should leave the theater happy.

Wicked: Part Two, Wicked: For Good

Wicked: For Good – November 21

The second part of the recent smash hit. Those who haven’t seen the Broadway play or read the book will get to see how the story ends. I expect more fantastic songs, some great visuals, and more Oz. We all need all the Oz we can get. Let’s all get ready to defy gravity once again.

2025 Movie Preview

Zootopia 2 – November 26

Disney has quite the release schedule this year, and we’re not even done yet. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are teaming up to solve a wild case that could change their entire lives. It will be fun to travel back into the world of Zootopia and see where the characters are. It looks like more of the same fun we had in the last film.

Zoe Saldaña, Avatar: Fire and Ash

Avatar: Fire And Ash – December 19

It’s time to head back to Pandora. Last time James Cameron dealt with water motifs and explored more of the world. Looks like we’ll be dealing with fire this time around. While the films seem to always be a wonder of motion capture and CGI, it would be great to see Cameron go back to other projects before his film career comes to an end. We can always hope.

Spongebob Squarepants

The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants – December 19

Hey Kids! SpongeBob is back with another movie. This time, he will explore the depths of the ocean to deal with the ghost of the Flying Dutchman. This franchise just keeps engaging generation after generation. At this point, The Simpsons might be about the only animated franchise that has lasted longer. As long as fans keep checking out the movies, the more they will keep making.

The new DCU kicks off with Creature Commandos this December, but the inaugural movie, James Gunn’s Superman, will be coming next year. While the new shared universe revamps the DC continuity, the brand doesn’t shy away from side stories either, with bonus Batman projects like the Todd Phillips Joker movies and Matt Reeves’ The Batman movies with The Penguin spin-off. However, there’s another director who is interested in telling his own side story with the famous Caped Crusader. Nobody 2 director, Timo Tjahjanto recently celebrated the wrapping of the filming and he has talked with our own Chris Bumbray about how in awe he was of his workhorse star Bob Odenkirk. Tjahjanto proclaimed, “I underestimated just how crazy Bob Odenkirk is! Honestly, Bob is a 61-year-old man and his dedication and the training that he undergoes…man….like, I’m embarrassed. I’m significantly younger than him and I get tired by the time we are shooting.” Now, Tjahjanto has recently taken to his social media to say he wants to pitch to DC a movie with “old Batman” starring Odenkirk. His post features an image rendering of an elderly Bats and a set picture of him with Odenkirk and simply says, “Whats them DC films @ ? Ima pitch an Old Batman Film with Bob Odenkirk.”

Empire recently previewed Nobody 2 as Tjahjanto tells them, “Now that he’s back at it in full throttle, how does his family react to this beast? You’ll see a lot of the questions that fathers and husbands ask — ‘How do they react to this other side of me who’s constantly hustling and working for the family?’ It’s gonna be quite a journey.”

In Nobody 2, Odenkirk is reprising the role of Hutch Mansell, with Christopher Lloyd confirmed to be back as his father, David, and Connie Nielsen returning as Hutch’s wife, Becca. It remains to be seen if Gage Munroe and/or Paisley Cadorath will return as Hutch and Becca’s children, Blake and Abby, or if RZA will appear as Harry. It has been announced that Sharon Stone has joined the cast of Nobody 2 as a “stone cold villainess,” while Colin Hanks is playing a corrupt sheriff.

Nobody 2, Bob Odenkirk

You are sorely mistaken if you thought Hutch Mansell had little gas in the tank after the events of 2021’s Nobody. Bob Odenkirk is back in the first look at one of next year’s most anticipated action films, Nobody 2. The new image comes courtesy of Empire Magazine, whose previews of some of next year’s hottest films include exclusive photos, interviews, and tidbits. The Night Comes For Us director Timo Tjahjanto helms this bloody and bone-cracking sequel, which bodes well for action fans.

Now that Hutch’s family knows about his secret past, there’s no putting the genie back in the bottle. He must adapt and find ways to balance his family life and the one he left behind, and that won’t be easy after making plenty of noise in the first film. “Now that he’s back at it in full throttle, how does his family react to this beast?” Tjahjanto told Empire. “You’ll see a lot of the questions that fathers and husbands ask — ‘How do they react to this other side of me who’s constantly hustling and working for the family?’ It’s gonna be quite a journey.”

While there was grit and grime to 2021’s Nobody, Tjahjanto says Nobody 2 takes a different approach. The latest film in the series will be brighter, “summery” and more colorful. This change will put a fresh coat of paint on Nobody 2, and we can’t wait to see it.

Today’s first-look image of Nobody 2 finds Bob Odenkirk’s Hutch Mansell covered in blood while holding a warm Uzi at arm’s length. Mansell’s had a rough go, and it looks like anyone who crosses him could find themselves on the business end of a gun.

Nobody 2, Bob Odenkirk, first look

Odenkirk is reprising the role of Hutch Mansell, with Christopher Lloyd confirmed to be back as his father, David, and Connie Nielsen returning as Hutch’s wife, Becca.

In September, Timo Tjahjanto said production for Nobody 2 was complete. He also praised the cast, saying everyone, especially Odenkirk, gave their all to the sequel.

“I underestimated just how crazy Bob Odenkirk is! Honestly, Bob is a 61-year-old man and his dedication and the training that he undergoes…man….like, I’m embarrassed. I’m significantly younger than him and I get tired by the time we are shooting,” said Tjahjanto.

He continues, “Hollywood schedules are relentless! I thought, ‘More money, more time.’ It’s nothing like that. It’s this crazy gauntlet of heavy scenes. Bob is a beast. I think you’re gonna like it. All I can say right now is that the theme is ‘family,’ and that’s what we’re trying to keep in mind while making this sequel.”

Although Timo Tjahjanto has a new action film, The Shadow Strays, premiering on Netflix next month. His next and higher-profile action film has just been put in the can. Tjahjanto has posted on his social media that principal photography on Nobody 2, starring Bob Odenkirk and Christopher Lloyd, has wrapped and now it’s on to post-production.

Tjahjanto posted a picture of the film’s (presumably final scene) clapperboard along with a photo of him and the film’s star, Bob Odenkirk, behind the scenes celebrating the wrap. The caption simply states, “Wrapped. See you at the cinemas.”

I’m significantly younger than him and I get tired by the time we are shooting.”

All I can say right now is that the theme is ‘family,’ and that’s what we’re trying to keep in mind while making this sequel.”

When the subject of Christopher Lloyd came up, Tjahjanto had this to say about the veteran actor, “Man, he is the funniest guy ever! He’s gonna be great as well.”

Bob Odenkirk returns as Hutch Mansell, the mild-manner family man who keeps his past as a government assassin under wraps. Connie Nielsen is also returning as Hutch’s wife, Becca, as well as Christopher Lloyd as Hutch’s father, a retired FBI agent. It was also announced a couple of months ago that Sharon Stone would be playing the main villain of the sequel.

John Ortiz, Nobody 2, Bob Odenkirk

THR reports that John Ortiz, best known for his roles in Fast & Furious, American Gangster, Kong: Skull Island, Mayans MC, and many others, has joined the cast of Nobody 2, which is currently in production in Winnipeg.

The sequel will see Bob Odenkirk return as Hutch Mansell, the mild-manner family man who keeps his past as a government assassin under wraps. Connie Nielsen is also returning as Hutch’s wife, Becca, as well as Christopher Lloyd as Hutch’s father, a retired FBI agent. It was announced earlier this year that Sharon Stone would be playing the main villain of the sequel. Colin Hanks is also onboard as a “corrupt sheriff with none-too-nice ambitions.” It’s not yet known who John Ortiz will play in Nobody 2, but I always love seeing him pop up in projects.

Our own Chris Bumbray recently spoke with Nobody 2 director Timo Tjahjanto, who said that Odenkirk and Lloyd are forces to be reckoned with.

The Shadow Strays director, Timo Tjahjanto, glows about his love of Rebel Ridge https://www.joblo.com/timo-tjahjanto-rebel-ridge/ https://www.joblo.com/timo-tjahjanto-rebel-ridge/#respond Wed, 18 Sep 2024 14:00:16 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=795978 While Tjahjanto indulges in violence with the upcoming The Shadow Strays and Nobody 2, he feels Rebel Ridge is much more mature in its message.

The Shadow Strays

Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge dominated Netflix’s Top 10 list for the second week this week and it has gained acclaim with a certified fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating of 96% with an audience score of 69%. Our own Chris Bumbray says in his review, “But what makes Rebel Ridge such a must-watch movie are the action sequences, which are shot in a lean, mean, and realistic way. You see, in the film, Terry is a former close combat instructor, and those are the tactics he uses to take on his opponents, with Pierre thrillingly adept in the well-staged martial arts sequences. This kind of action role makes a guy like him a star, and one has to imagine that the suits at Marvel and DC will be keeping an eye on him.” The fights scenes are a standout for the film and one person who has ample experience with hardcore fighting is director Timo Tjahjanto.

Tjahjanto has worked with The Raid‘s Iko Uwais on a couple of features, including Headshot and The Night Comes For Us, also starring The Raid‘s Joe Taslim. Tjahjanto also has a new bloody affair coming out from Netflix, titled The Shadow Strays and while promoting that film, Tjahjanto proclaimed his love for Rebel Ridge while talking to our EIC. “I love Rebel Ridge. Jeremy [Saulnier] is my personal hero. It’s funny, whenever Jeremy is releasing a film, I’m releasing a film as well. I remember when he released Hold the Dark, I was releasing The Night Comes for Us. And I always feel, obviously, he’s a much better filmmaker than me and much more mature filmmaker than me.”

He continues with the statement, “Rebel Ridge is an exercise of knowing that violence is not the answer. While, me…like I’m still very much living in this weird, violent, confrontational [world].”

Tjahjanto also is in production for Nobody 2 and recently praised his leading man, Bob Odenkirk, on his drive. Tjahjanto stated, “I underestimated just how crazy Bob Odenkirk is! Honestly, Bob is a 61-year-old man and his dedication and the training that he undergoes…man….like, I’m embarrassed. I’m significantly younger than him and I get tired by the time we are shooting.”

Nobody

Nobody 2 is now reloaded, cocked and shooting under the direction of Timo Tjahjanto, who is stepping in for the first film’s director, Ilya Naishuller. Nobody 2, Colin Hanks

Colin Hanks has joined the cast of Nobody 2, and according to THR, he might not be playing a good guy.

Nobody 2 will start shooting this month under the direction of Timo Tjahjanto, who is stepping in for the first film’s Ilya Naishuller. It was announced last month that Sharon Stone would be playing the main villain of the sequel.

As for Colin Hanks, THR’s sources say he will be playing a “corrupt sheriff with none-too-nice ambitions” in Nobody 2.

The first film was released in 2021 and starred Odenkirk as “an unassuming family man who cowers and folds during a home invasion. His post-traumatic shame disorder reignites a long-cooled fire within, and he summons a secret lethal skill set for a revenge mission, only to see it backfire spectacularly and put his family in greater jeopardy.” Even after his heart attack on the set of Better Call Saul, Odenkirk has been keen to return for more. “Let’s make Nobody 2,” Odenkirk said in 2022. “And I’m going to kick more ass than I ever have. Universal has been very upbeat and welcoming. Derek [Kolstad, screenwriter] and I have talked story. It’s not a sure thing yet, but we’re working on it. I think the signs point to yes.

Our own Chris Bumbray was a big fan of Nobody, calling it the “best commercial action movie we’ve gotten in a long while.” He also had plenty of praise for the leading man.

Nobody 2, Christopher Lloyd, Bob Odenkirk

Talk about getting the band back together! After going toe-to-toe with a legion of gun-toting criminals in 2021’s Nobody, Christopher Lloyd will reload his shotgun to star alongside Bob Odenkirk in the highly anticipated sequel, Nobody 2. The veteran actor known for his show-stopping roles in Robert Zemeckis’s Back to the Future trilogy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, The Addams Family, and more will join Odenkirk, Connie Nielsen, and Sharon Stone for the action-packed spy thriller.

Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto (The Night Comes for UsThe Big 4Headshot) helms Nobody 2 based on a screenplay written by Derek Kolstad, Aaron Rabin, Odenkirk, and Umair Aleem. Nobody surprised the box office by grossing $57.5 million after spending $16 million on production. Fans of Odenkirk’s bullet-riddled thriller have waited patiently for the sequel to take shape, with all-time high hype to see Odenkirk’s Hutch Mansell back on screens.

In Nobody, Bob Odenkirk plays Hutch Mansell, a seemingly mild-mannered former government assassin whose past resurfaces when his family is the target of a home invasion. Christopher Lloyd reprises his role as Hutch’s father, David Mansell, in Nobody 2. In the original, David is a retired badass who spends his days at home watching action movies at an absurd volume. However, when a group of criminals threaten his family, David reveals he’s still packing heat and can handle his business. David’s badassery extends to the film’s entertaining finale, with Lloyd dropping bodies inside a warehouse like a pro.

Plot details for Nobody 2 remain a mystery, though many hope (myself included) that Connie Nielsen’s Becca Mansell gets to mix it up alongside her husband Hutch. At 85 years young, Christopher Lloyd is still kicking ass and taking names in Hollywood with an impressive list of film and television appearances and voiceover work across live-action and animation. He recently voiced Chief Pachacamac for the Knuckles series on Paramount+ and continues to play The Therapist for the animated series Tooned Out. He guest starred in a recent episode of the award-winning series Hacks, playing Larry Arbuckle.
