The Accountant 2 is enjoying a modest success at the box office this past week, though it had some pretty stiff competition with Sinners continuing its reign and Revenge of the Sith having a strong showing with an anniversary re-release. Our Chris Bumbray found Accountant 2 to be a pretty fun time at the movies as he says in his review, “Overall, The Accountant 2 works terrifically well as a slam-bang buddy action comedy, with Affleck and Bernthal at their absolute best. […] as a meat-and-potatoes action fan, I’ve been starving for a film like this. I love the sleek 87North-style action flicks that are in favour now, but The Accountant 2 is old-school in a way I’ve been missing. The extra emphasis on characterization only sweetens the pot. Bring on The Accountant 3! “

Well, he’s not the only one ready for an Accountant 3. Recently, the film’s director, Gavin O’Connor, has talked about not only continuing the story of Christian Wolff, but he’s ready to bring back Anna Kendrick, who played Christian’s colleague from the first film, Dana Cummings. Cummings was someone who had a rare human connection with Wolff that possibly hinted at something more than friendship and O’Connor wants to follow through on it as he told The Hollywood Reporter, “One thing we’ve talked about is the idea of bringing Anna Kendrick back. Maybe Christian can finally get the love that he deserves.” Affleck chimed in with a joke saying that he hopes Kendrick “still likes us.” O’Connor would respond to Affleck, “Actually, Ben, she and I have been texting. She said she’s a hundred percent in if we want.”

O’Connor explained that when he laid out the plan for a trilogy, he wasn’t intending to revisit the Dana character until the third film. The director expounded, “People have asked about Anna Kendrick’s [absence], but she was never intended to be in the second movie. … We always intended it to be a trilogy, and so we’re having conversations. Ben and I, our producer Lynette [Howell Taylor], and writer Bill [Dubuque], we’re all having conversations with Amazon about that very thing, so it will not be another nine years before we do our third one. Chris needs to find love. That’s what we set up with this character who’s in search of love and human connection. So I want to be able to give Christian that by the end of the third movie.”

What a weekend this is for action fans! Not only is Ryan Coogler’s bone-crunching vampire horror/action hybrid Sinners still playing to packed theaters, but the movie gods have given us two brand-new, but nicely old-fashioned run-and-gun action movies to entertain us this weekend—one on streaming – and one in theaters. So, regardless of whether or not you make it to a theater this weekend, you’re guaranteed a rip-roaring good time.

That said, these are two different kinds of action movies. The Accountant 2, in addition to being a sequel, is much more in the vein of American action movies from the 80s and 90s. It’s the kind of movie a guy like Mel Gibson would have made in his heyday, with someone like Richard Donner directing it. By contrast, Havoc is firmly entrenched in the Hong Kong action style of the same period, with it very much in the mould of a John Woo/ Chow Yun-Fat flick. Havoc has a body count in the hundreds, while The Accountant 2 keeps things a little more earthbound (although I’d wager Affleck and Bernthal each kill at least a dozen baddies each in the climax).

Of the two, I preferred The Accountant 2. While I think Gareth Evans is an amazing action director, his corny script and dialogue muddle what’s otherwise a brilliantly executed piece of action filmmaking. By contrast, The Accountant 2’s dialogue and characterization are a highlight. But hey, what do I know? Let us know in the comments what you thought of both of this week’s new action flicks, and while you’re at it, take the poll below and let us know which one you think is better. With Thunderbolts on the way and Sinners in theatres, at least we won’t be lacking big-screen action anytime soon!

After a disastrous winter at the North American box office, exhibitors finally have some good news, with April proving to be a barn-burner, propelled by two hugely successful films. Ironically, the two films in question, A Minecraft Movie and Sinners, come from Warner Bros, who, in the wake of Joker: Folie à Deux and Mickey 17, were seen as being in the middle of a disastrous slate of films. Oh, how the tide has changed. After a solid $48 million opening last weekend, Sinners looks like it might be posting one of the smallest week-to-week declines in recent memory, with it heading for at least $40 million this weekend. That’s about $10 million more than we predicted earlier this week.

Meanwhile, the Ben Affleck-led The Accountant 2 seems like it will open more or less in line with the first film, with it looking like it’ll probably make about $25 million (according to Deadline). It has a terrific A-minus CinemaScore rating, so hopefully word-of-mouth will be strong, and it won’t be totally decimated by Thunderbolts, which comes out next weekend. That said, The Accountant 2 will likely be a smash hit once it starts streaming on Prime Video, so hopefully we’ll still get a third film in the franchise. Whether it gets to theaters or not seems to be up in the air, and likely depends on word of mouth. Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith is on track for a $20 million weekend, which is a mammoth number for a re-release, proving people love seeing old favourites theatrically. I’d expect Disney to put more Star Wars movies out on the big screen before The Mandalorian and Grogu opens next year, as it seems like an absolute no-brainer.

However, it also looks like Sony’s video game adaptation, Until Dawn, which earned a pretty bad C+ CinemaScore rating, is heading for an underwhelming $7 million weekend. That said, it only cost Sony about $15 million, so when foreign grosses are factored in, it should more or less break even.

We’ll be back with a full box office wrap-up tomorrow!

Alongside Tony Gilroy’s Andor returning to Disney+, the mouse-eared studio is feeling the Force by unleashing a 20th-anniversary re-release of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in theaters. According to today’s box office numbers, plenty of fans still want to experience Star Wars on the silver screen, as the third film in the prequel trilogy earned $3.4M in previews. The kicker? That’s only the start of the film’s dominance in theaters this weekend. According to Deadline, Revenge of the Sith has $20M+ in pre-sales, making it a fierce contender for the top spot at the box office among new films.

If Revenge of the Sith performs as planned, it could push Ben Affleck’s anticipated sequel, The Accountant 2, to the second slot. The Accountant 2 banked $2.5M from previews, including the film’s April 15 “Tax Day” screenings. Analysts expect The Accountant 2 to earn $20M at the weekend box office, possibly keeping pace with Revenge of the Sith. It’s worth noting that the opening for Affleck’s new film fared better than its 2016 predecessor, which earned $1.35M in previews before closing out a 3-day total of $24.7M. The Accountant 2 boasts a 76% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 92% Popcorn Score.

Elsewhere, Ryan Coogler’s Sinners took a bite out of $6M on Thursday, ending its first week with $77.5M. The re-release of Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII opened in 2,550 theaters across 64 countries for a North American opening of $1.29M. Finally, Screen Gems’ adaptation of Super Massive Games’ Until Dawn scared up $1M in previews. The studio expects the time-loop adaptation to pull $8M-$9M over the weekend against a budget of $15M.

Our editor-in-chief, Chris Bumbray, loved The Accountant 2. In his review, Chris said, “As a meat-and-potatoes action fan, I’ve been starving for a film like this. I love the sleek 87North-style action flicks that are in favour now, but The Accountant 2 is old-school in a way I’ve been missing. The extra emphasis on characterization only sweetens the pot. Bring on The Accountant 3!”

Box Office Predictions: Sinners should squeeze out a victory over The Accountant 2 https://www.joblo.com/sinners-should-squeeze-out-a-victory/ https://www.joblo.com/sinners-should-squeeze-out-a-victory/#respond Thu, 24 Apr 2025 15:12:17 +0000 https://www.joblo.com/?p=837534 While both movies are expected to perform well, Sinners' mid-week performance at the box office suggests strong word-of-mouth.

As far as the box office goes, timing is everything. And, it seems like The Accountant 2, which was riding a terrific wave of buzz following its SXSW world premiere, might be a victim of timing, with the movie looking unlikely to beat Ryan Coogler’s Sinners at the box office this weekend. While the $48 million opening was considered solid, the film’s mid-week performance at the box office has been extraordinary. That aspect, coupled with the rare A CinemaScore rating, has many believing that the film will easily snatch the box office throne this weekend, despite the combined star power of Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal.

As such, Sinners should be able to easily crack $30 million at the box office this weekend, while The Accountant 2 should make in the neighborhood of $20 million. Why so low? For one thing, The Accountant 2 is a sequel to a nine-year-old movie. While it did solid box office, it wasn’t a blockbuster; it became a major hit once it hit streaming and home media. That seems likely to happen for the sequel as well, as it’s targeting the over-35 audience who, increasingly, are choosing to watch movies at home rather than theatrically. The Accountant 2 is produced by Amazon/MGM, meaning it will eventually find a place streaming on Prime Video, where it will, no doubt, become one of their more popular titles. That said, I really liked the movie and would dig the hell out of an Accountant 3, so I’m hoping it does better than expected.

Another movie that could play the spoiler this week is the re-release of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith. Last year, The Phantom Menace opened to $8.8 million, but resales suggest Sith will at least double its take, and we’re predicting about $18 million. It would be a shame if this re-release topped The Accountant 2, but that’s where we are in the business today. A Minecraft Movie should hit fourth place with about $15 million, while King of Kings should round out the top five with $10 million.

Here are our predictions:

  1. Sinners: $30 million
  2. The Accountant 2: $20 million
  3. Revenge of the Sith: $18 million
  4. A Minecraft Movie: $15 million
  5. King of Kings: $10 million

What do you think will top the box office this weekend? Let us know!

The Accountant was an unexpected treat for action fans. It ended up being a quirky hit flick featuring terrific work from Ben Affleck and the cast, including Jon Bernthal. And now we have a sequel. Thankfully, filmmaker Gavin O’Connor managed to make a part two that is absolutely satisfying and fun and gives more on-screen time to the great pairing of Ben and Jon. It also offers the return of Cynthia Addai-Robinson, as well as new cast members, including Daniella Pineda. It’s a sharp sequel that manages to be engaging as a thriller and buddy flick. You can check out Chris Bumbray’s take on this fine sequel here.

A month ago, I sat down with some of the stars and the filmmaker behind The Accountant 2. Talking to Jon Bernthal is always amazing. For Mr. Bernthal, I sat down across from both him and Mr. O’Connor. Before beginning the chat, I had to give Gavin a little Warrior love, which is one of my personal favorites. And then the conversation began. The two talked about creating a worthy sequel. More importantly, there is fantastic on-screen chemistry between Jon and Ben.

Next, I spoke with Cynthia Addai-Robinson and Daniella Pineda. The two were incredibly charming, and they spoke about working with this cast and filmmaker. What impressed this viewer was that these two roles felt just as important to the story as the leads. Seeing more depth in an action flick such as this was nice.

The Accountant 2 is a terrific sequel, one that builds on the first incredibly well. Check it out this weekend at a theatre near you.

PLOT: After his friend is killed while trying to track down a missing woman, Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) attempts to solve the murder. When the trail leads to the dangerous world of human trafficking, he’s forced to contact his deadly, estranged brother Braxton (Jon Bernthal) for help.

REVIEW: It’s taken nine whole years, but here we are with a long-awaited sequel to The Accountant. For my money, the first film ranks as Ben Affleck’s best-action vehicle. While his superhero roles and other stabs at franchises, such as his turn as Jack Ryan in The Sum of All Fears, never panned out, The Accountant was a different story. The role of Christian Wolff seemed tailor-made for him. In the first movie, Wolff, who worked as a forensic accountant for the mob, was revealed to be something of a do-gooder, using the information he learned from jobs to help the feds take down violent criminals.

While all that would have made the film a serviceable action vehicle, writer Bill Dubuque and director Gavin O’Connor made the choice to have Wolff be autistic. A such, they spent a significant amount of time detailing how the quirks of his condition made him better at his job but also made it hard for him to bond with others, including his brother Braxton, who was originally the antagonist in the first film, who had a change of heart at the eleventh hour.

In the sequel, Bernthal’s been bumped up to co-star status, with the movie playing out like an ultra-violent version of Rain Man in some respects, with the two teaming up to unravel a violent plot. The Accountant 2 has been highly anticipated here at JoBlo, and I’m happy to report that the movie lives up to the first one and might actually be better thanks to the byplay between Affleck and Bernthal, who make a dynamic buddy pairing. While the plot is confusing at times and probably more complicated than it needed to be, it’s all just an excuse to put these two guys together and let them do their thing. For his part, Affleck looks trim and engaged and seems to relish once again sinking his teeth into one of his most memorable characters.

A trailer has been released for the action thriller The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal, directed by Gavin O'Connor

Despite being killers, the movie does a nice job humanizing both of them. Christian and Braxton are portrayed as ultimately lonely, with Wolff giving speed dating a try while Braxton agonizes over whether he should adopt a dog. You get the sense that the thing that’s missing from both of their lives is simply each other. Bernthal, in particular, is allowed to almost walk away with the movie, as Braxton pushes Christian’s buttons for largely comic effect, making the film much more amusing than the darker first film.

One thing about The Accountant 2 is that, for most of the running time, the action takes a bit of a backseat, save for a nifty opening scrap with J.K. Simmons, who returns from the first film in a smaller role, and a cool moment where Christian violently interrogates a thug. Yet, in the last half hour, the action is ramped up to a level not seen in the first film, with a sprawling final gun battle in Mexico that riffs on Heat and delivers in a big way.

Overall, The Accountant 2 works terrifically well as a slam-bang buddy action comedy, with Affleck and Bernthal at their absolute best. Cynthia Addai-Robinson returns as the straight-laced treasury agent helping out our antiheroes, with her proving to be a good foil, especially for the more murderous Braxton, who doesn’t quite have the scruples his older brother has. Danielle Pineda also makes an impression as a mysterious hit woman who enters their orbit, with her backstory figuring heavily into the plot. The only thing the movie is really missing is a good bad guy, with the villains mostly a barrage of faceless goons who only exist so Affleck and Bernthal can blow them away in the climax. Christian’s squad of fellow autistic savant helpers also seems a little too all-powerful, especially with them being all children – although this seems to be a kind of deliberate riff on Sherlock Holmes’s Baker Street Irregulars.

I’m not complaining, though—as a meat-and-potatoes action fan, I’ve been starving for a film like this. I love the sleek 87North-style action flicks that are in favour now, but The Accountant 2 is old-school in a way I’ve been missing. The extra emphasis on characterization only sweetens the pot. Bring on The Accountant 3!

Ben Affleck, Jon Bernthal, Daredevil, Punisher

Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal both star in The Accountant 2, but the pair also share a Marvel connection, with Affleck having played Daredevil in the 2003 movie and Bernthal playing Punisher in Daredevil: Born Again. While speaking on Jake’s Takes with Bernthal, Affleck reflected on how fair Daredevil has come over the decades.

Well, his Punisher is good,” Affleck said. “Daredevil was an interesting story. It was before Kevin Feige had stepped into the role of running Marvel. He imposed a kind of clarity of tone across those movies that sort of figured out the trickiest thing, which is, ‘How do you balance a movie where you got people wearing pajamas and have superpowers, and how seriously you take it, and how much humor is in it, and how much you wink at the audience, and what does the action have to look like?’ It coincided with visual effects getting to a place where it could look really convincing. It paved the way for great actors like him to really get it done.

Affleck continued, “There’s a new Daredevil, I haven’t seen it yet, but I certainly love the character. I wish him the best, but I wouldn’t tangle with his Punisher.” In another world, perhaps we could have seen Affleck’s Daredevil face off against the Punisher, but instead, all we got was that awful Elektra spinoff.

As for The Accountant 2, the long-belated sequel has been received surprisingly well, and our own Chris Bumbray dug the film after watching it at SXSW. “The Accountant 2 works terrifically well as a slam-bang buddy action comedy, with Affleck and Bernthal at their absolute best,” Bumbray wrote. “I love the sleek 87North-style action flicks that are in favour now, but The Accountant 2 is old-school in a way I’ve been missing. The extra emphasis on characterization only sweetens the pot. Bring on The Accountant 3!” You can check out the rest of his review right here.

Speaking of The Accountant 3, O’Connor does have another potential sequel in mind. “I have a lot of thoughts about what to do with the third,” O’Connor said. “I’ve been thinking about it for a lot of years.

The official synopsis for The Accountant 2 reads: “When her former boss is killed by unknown assassins, Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) is forced to contact Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) to solve the murder. Christian Wolff, Ben Affleck’s character from the 2016 action thriller The Accountant, will be making his long-awaited return to the big screen this year – and his comeback is going to be a violent one. The Motion Picture Association ratings board recently revealed that they’ve given The Accountant 2 an R rating for strong violence, and language throughout. That happens to be the same rating the first movie received, for the exact same reasons. Coming our way from Amazon MGM Studios, the film is scheduled to be released on April 25 – and with that date just a few weeks away, a new trailer for the film has dropped online! You can watch it in the embed above.

If you need a refresher, Wikipedia reminds us that Christian Wolff was “a certified public accountant with autism who makes his living (un-)’cooking the books’ (i.e., sanitizing fraudulent financial and accounting records) of criminal and terrorist organizations around the world that are experiencing internal embezzlement.”

Directed by Gavin O’Connor from a script by Bill Dubuque, the team behind the first movie, The Accountant 2 has the following synopsis: When her former boss is killed by unknown assassins, Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) is forced to contact Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) to solve the murder. With the help of his estranged but highly lethal brother Brax (Jon Bernthal), Chris applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle. As they get closer to the truth, the trio draw the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive—all intent on putting a stop to their search. Here’s another synopsis: Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems. When an old acquaintance is murdered, leaving behind a cryptic message to “find the accountant,” Wolff is compelled to solve the case. Realizing more extreme measures are necessary, Wolff recruits his estranged and highly lethal brother, Brax (Jon Bernthal), to help. In partnership with U.S. Treasury Deputy Director Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson), they uncover a deadly conspiracy, becoming targets of a ruthless network of killers who will stop at nothing to keep their secrets buried.

Ben Affleck, Cynthia Addai-Robinson, and Jon Bernthal are joined in the cast by J.K. Simmons, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, Robert Morgan, and Grant Harvey. Affleck is also producing the sequel with Matt Damon, Lynette Howell Taylor, and Mark Williams.

Are you a fan of The Accountant, and are you looking forward to The Accountant 2? What did you think of the new trailer? Let us know by leaving a comment below. JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray had the chance to watch the movie last month and gave it an 8/10 review that can be read at THIS LINK.

There’s something heartwarming about the enduring friendship between Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. The pair started out together, and they still seem to be as close as ever. While speaking with GQ, Affleck explained how their careers began to take different paths when Damon started picking his projects based on the director.

Matt learned and knew earlier than I did to really key in on the director as the fundamental basis on which he’s going to make a decision whether to do a movie or not, which was a very wise choice,” Affleck said. “And also he has certainly had opportunities to do movies that like—it’s not like I was saying, ‘No, Scorsese, no, Spielberg, I’m not going to be in your movie.’ We’re in situations of our opportunities, and we’re subject to that.

Affleck continued, “I would’ve taken Saving Private Ryan. If Martin Scorsese called me and told me to play a waiter, I would take it. Steven Spielberg is one of the great filmmaking architects to ever live. I feel that way about Chris Nolan. I may go visit Matt on the set just to watch Nolan direct. I’m not even kidding at all.The Odyssey tells the tale of Odysseus, King of Ithaca, and his journey home after the ten-year Trojan War. The trip was filled with peril, including encounters with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe. At home, Odysseus is presumed dead, and his wife Penelope and son Telemachus must contend with groups of unruly suitors who each want Penelope’s hand in marriage to control the kingdom.

Affleck will next be seen starring in The Accountant 2. The long-belated sequel has been received surprisingly well, and our own Chris Bumbray dug the film after watching it at SXSW.

The Accountant 2 will be released in theaters on April 25th.

Ben Affleck gets back in action for The Accountant 2, which took home the audience award at this year’s SXSW festival. Our own Chris Bumbray enjoyed the old-school-style action throwback of this entry as he said in his review, “Overall, The Accountant 2 works terrifically well as a slam-bang buddy action comedy, with Affleck and Bernthal at their absolute best. […] As a meat-and-potatoes action fan, I’ve been starving for a film like this. I love the sleek 87North-style action flicks that are in favor now, but The Accountant 2 is old-school in a way I’ve been missing. The extra emphasis on characterization only sweetens the pot. Bring on The Accountant 3! “ As Affleck promotes the film, he talks with GQ, where they ask him about his days as Batman and if postmortem thoughts about playing the character.

The Good Will Hunting star replied, “I had a really good time. I loved doing the Batman movie. I loved Batman v Superman. And I liked my brief stints on The Flash that I did and when I got to work with Viola Davis on Suicide Squad for a day or two. In terms of creatively, I really think that I like the idea and the ambition that I had for it, which was of the sort of older, broken, damaged Bruce Wayne. And it was something we really went for in the first movie.”

He continues, “But what happened was it started to skew too old for a big part of the audience. Like even my own son at the time was too scared to watch the movie. And so when I saw that I was like, ‘Oh sh*t, we have a problem.’ Then I think that’s when you had a filmmaker that wanted to continue down that road and a studio that wanted to recapture all the younger audience at cross purposes. Then you have two entities, two people really wanting to do something different and that is a really bad recipe.”

When Affleck did the DVD commentary for Armageddon, his truthfulness somewhat became viral as he had explained that he questioned director Michael Bay on the logic of drillers learning to be astronauts as opposed to astronauts learning to drill, to which Bay told him to “shut the f*ck up.” Affleck explained, “That is one of the achievements of my career on which I’m willing to pat myself on the back. I believe that may be at least top five all-time DVD commentaries. By the way, nobody said anything to me. I don’t think any of the other people listened to it or gave a fuck until years later when it was played. And I was kind of shocked and appalled that I went on there and started being like…. I mean, that’s all true. Everything I said was a hundred percent true, but that’s the point. You’re not supposed to go on there and tell all of the truth.”

He went on to continue about his time on the sci-fi film, “I never expected, ‘Oh, this is going to be genius.’ I thought, I’m going to go do a big Hollywood action movie and I love it. And yes, during the movie, I was kind of surprised to find that sometimes they weren’t all that interested in making sense. I remember Billy Bob [Thornton] was having a long conversation about a scene in the space mission control or whatever it was, and he was like, ‘No, that’s okay, man. I can stop talking about it. I just kind of like to be in the kind of movies that make sense, you know what I mean? But f*ck it, we don’t have to do that. We’re not doing that on this one. F*ck it.’ And I was the only person who was kind of like, ‘Okay, I guess we don’t operate by those other rules here.’ But there’s a sense of being small and of this thing being big. And so I felt like a little ant on the elephant when I would shoot my mouth off about the conversation I had with Michael [Bay, the director of Armageddon] about why is it easier to train oil drillers to be astronauts than to train astronauts to drill a hole in the ground?”

The Accountant 2, SXSW award

The South by Southwest Film & TV Festival (SXSW) has announced the Audience Award winners, and Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant 2 has taken home the award for the Headliners section.

Our deepest thanks to the filmmakers, audiences, and volunteers who made this year’s SXSW Film & TV Festival exceptional,” said Claudette Godfrey, VP Film & TV. “We assembled another stellar program that puts independently made narratives, documentaries, TV series, and XR experiences on the same stage as studio films and TV shows. The magic of shared viewing experiences and a sense of community continued to define our festival, and we’re excited for all of this year’s projects to reach even wider audiences beyond SXSW!

The Accountant 2 stars Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, who is brought out of hiding by a Treasury Agent after someone close to them is killed by unknown assassins. But in order to solve the crime, Wolff must turn to his estranged brother (Jon Bernthal) for help. In addition to Affleck and Bernthal, the film stars Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, and J.K. Simmons.

Coming our way from Amazon MGM Studios, the film is scheduled to be released on April 25 – and with that date just a couple of months away, a trailer for the film has arrived online!

Hype for the Ben Affleck-led sequel, The Accountant 2, is heating up, and director Gavin O’Connor is already talking about The Accountant 3. O’Connor doesn’t want to get too ahead of himself, but he’s got a “go big or go home” attitude about the criminally underrated action franchise. Speaking with Vanity Fair, O’Connor said he’s always wanted The Accountant to become a trilogy and has some ideas to make that happen.

“I have a lot of thoughts about what to do with the third. I’ve been thinking about it for a lot of years,” O’Connor told Vanity Fair. Mind you, he would not proceed with The Accountant 3 without Ben Affleck, who is focusing on the launch of The Accountant 2.

“I’m keenly aware of the fact that you kind of have to earn another movie,” Affleck explained. “The worst pitfall is to store a bunch of your good ideas for the next installment. If you don’t create an interest demand the first time out there, you’re just going to be playing that to an empty house.”

Amazon MGM Studios debuted a gallery of first-look images for The Accountant 2 yesterday. The film features Ben Affleck reprising his role as mathematics savant Christian Wolff, his brother Brax, played by Jon Bernthal, and other players like Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Daniella Pineda, and J.K. Simmons.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Accountant 2 courtesy of Amazon MGM Studios:

One of the best and often overlooked action films of 2016 is Ben Affleck’s conspiracy thriller The Accountant. Don’t let the stuffy title fool you. The film features Affleck as Christian Wolff, a mathematics savant, and one-man-army who uncooks the books for a new client, only to have the Treasury Department upend his efforts and paint a target on his back. Today, we’ve got a gallery of first-look images for The Accountant 2, which finds Affleck returning to the role of Christian Wolff, with Jon Bernthal joining the cast as Christian’s brother, Brax.

Gavin O’Connor returns to direct The Accountant 2 from a screenplay by Bill Dubuque, who wrote the 2016 original. In addition to his starring role, Ben Affleck is a producer alongside Lynette Taylor and Mark Williams. Joining Affleck and Bernthal as primary cast members are Cynthia Addai-Robinson (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Colombiana, Star Trek Into Darkness), who returns to the franchise as Marybeth Medina, Daniella Pineda (Jurassic World Dominion, Plane, Cowboy Bebop), Allison Robertson (The 31, Me and My Darkness), and J.K. Simmons (Whiplash, Spider-Man, Red One).

Before they got the green light for the sequel, Affleck said the project could have become a TV series instead. “We’ve talked about it,” Affleck said. “There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used to call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2′.”

The belated sequel to Gavin O’Connor’s 2016 action thriller will have its world premiere at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival on March 8th.

Den Of Thieves: Pantera – January 10

Gerard Butler is back chasing down diamond thieves on the streets of Europe. He stumbles across the planning of the largest diamond heist ever planned. If you liked the first movie, then this will probably be more of the same. I’m personally happy that Gerard Butler is making some fun B-movie action films like back in the day. Plane was fun, and I’m excited to see these types of films at the theater again.

better man

Better Man – January 10

A biopic about UK pop star Robbie Williams as we see his childhood all the way through his superstardom. Robbie will be playing himself, but how do you do that without it being weird? What if you make it so he’s a chimp? Sure. With Pharrell releasing his biopic as a Lego movie and now Robbie Williams replacing himself with a CGI chimp it seems biopics are really trying to gain quirk appeal.

Back in Action, release, Netflix, Jamie Foxx, Cameron Diax, first-look images

Back In Action – January 17

Cameron Diaz is coming out of retirement and teaming up with Jamie Foxx for this Netflix original film. They play former CIA agents who are pulled back in when their identities are exposed. While I’m glad to see Diaz back on screen after a decade away, it’s odd that this generic spy action movie did it. Maybe just the idea of being in a movie with Jamie Foxx again was enough.

Michelle Yeoh, Star Trek: Section 31, first look

Star Trek: Section 31 – January 24

This direct to Paramount+ film is a spin off from Star Trek: Discovery starring Michelle Yeoh as her character Philippa Georgiou. This was originally planned as a series, but after COVID-19 delays, it was scrapped. Later they revived the idea for an original movie. Star Trek has always been a beloved franchise but with new movies going direct to streaming, will we ever see them return to the big screen?

bridget jones, isla fisher, jim broadbent, nico parker

Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy – February 13

For the first time in nine years, Bridget Jones is back! Only this time, it will be on Peacock in the United States and then in theaters everywhere else in the world. Seems backwards but okay. Bridget Jones is now a single mom and trying to figure out how that works when you’re trying to get back into the dating pool. Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant return, along with some other familiar faces. Are we past the Bridget Jones fandom, or is there still more life in this franchise?

Captain America: Brave New World, Red Hulk

Captain America: Brave New World – February 14

After the events of Falcon And The Winter Soldier, Anthony Mackie is donning the shield as the new Captain America. Harrison Ford steps in for the late William Hurt as the new President Ross, who has a big red secret to share. Marvel only had one release last summer, and it seemed to work really well for them. Let’s see if something without Hugh Jackman’s claws still registers for Marvel fans.

2025 Movie Preview

Mickey 17 – March 7

The new film from Bong Joon-ho sees Robert Pattinson sent on a space mission because he is seen as expendable. With technology, he can be regenerated if something goes wrong. This time, something goes wrong, and he begins to experience an existential crisis. This darkly comedic film looks like a good time as we see Mickey die in numerous different ways and still have to get up to go to work the next day.

black bag

Black Bag – March 14

Steven Soderberg’s spy thriller is coming out with no details on the plot. With a cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, and Pierce Brosnan, you can bet lots of people will be interested in checking it out. Soderberg has always had an interesting take on just about any film he releases, and this will be no different.

Snow White

Snow White – March 21

Disney continues its trend of doing live-action remakes of its old animated films. This one caused a stir when it was announced, as people seemed divided on how to handle the seven dwarfs aspect of the film. Ultimately, the dwarves will be completely CGI. It will be interesting to see how this plays in a modern culture. Expect some new songs, and Gal Gadot will be playing the evil queen, which is inspired casting compared to the look of the original character.

2025 Movie Preview

A Minecraft Movie – April 4

With Super Mario Bros. and the Sonic movies being big hits, it’s no surprise that the hugely popular game Minecraft would be getting its own movie. Jack Black once again jumps on board to play Steve, the generic character most players take control of when booting up Minecraft. Jason Mamoa, Jennifer Coolidge, and Kate McKinnon round out the cast as random characters are pulled into the cubic world and need the help of an expert crafter to get home. Seems very Jumanji.

The Accountant 2, release date

The Accountant 2 – April 25

I don’t think anyone saw this sequel coming. In the first film, Ben Affleck played a neuro-divergent accountant who had a side job as a hitman. The film was a modest hit but nothing that would seem to warrant a sequel. Some other familiar faces from the first one return.

Thunderbolts*

Thunderbolts* – May 2

The second of Marvel’s offerings this year sees a bunch of cast-off characters from previous Marvel films being rounded up for a new agency. Yelena will be leading the team of previous supervillains who are now taking jobs for the government. Of course, this will be complicated by a lot of in-fighting and some unexpected speedbumps. The trailer makes this look like a lot of fun so here’s hoping it will give MCU fans some laughs while providing some great action scenes.

2025 Movie Preview

Lilo & Stitch – May 23

This is the second of Disney’s live-action remakes. Stitch crash-lands on Earth and is adopted by a young girl. Hijinks ensue as others come looking for him. The original had a great sense of humor, and the trailers showing Stitch invading other Disney properties were great. I have no idea if this will translate well into live-action, but kids will probably love it.

mission impossible

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – May 23

This was originally titled Dead Reckoning Part II, but after the last film underperformed, the title was quickly changed. It will continue the storyline from the last film, and we see Ethan Hunt trying to stop the deadly AI from causing worldwide chaos. Of course in order to shut it down, they have to make their way to the submarine that is crashed on the ocean floor.

Karate Kid: Legends

Karate Kid: Legends – May 30

The franchise returns to the big screen as we see Daniel from the original and Mr. Han from the 2010 “remake” join forces to mentor a new student. It’s a strange crossing of the streams which retcons the remake into being set in the same continuity. With Cobra Kai just ending when this hits theaters, will fans even care enough to go check it out? Fans of the original movie got their nostalgia fix with the series. Are there people who have nostalgia for the 2010 movie?

Ballerina

From The World Of John Wick: Ballerina – June 6

The spin-off of the John Wick films hits the big screen. We were introduced to the Ballerinas in John Wick 3. Now they get a film all their own while Keanu Reeves will still make an appearance since this is set during that time period. Ana de Armas takes over the role of Eve as she looks to get revenge on the people who killed her family. The intricate world of John Wick is fascinating to explore, and this gives us a chance to see even more of it.

2025 Movie Preview

Elio – June 13

An animated film from Disney that follows Elio. He’s a young space fanatic who gets tasked with saving the universe. They have been struggling to come up with animated films that really stick with audiences that aren’t already established Pixar properties. The shine of the early Pixar films has really dimmed after Disney bought them. Hopefully we can see Disney regain its footing with animated films like we used to have.

How to Train Your Dragon

How To Train Your Dragon – June 13

Dreamworks seems to be taking a cue from Disney and remaking some of their more popular animated properties. We’re getting another round of dragons as we see the first meeting of Hiccup and Toothless. Again. Not sure if this trend will ever end, but at least Dreamworks doesn’t have as deep of a catalog as Disney. When can we expect to see a live-action Kung Fu Panda?

Jurassic World Rebirth, Jurassic Park

Jurassic World: Rebirth – July 2

Scarlett Johanssen is taking the lead role this time around. No one seems to have learned any lesson about bringing dinosaurs back to life. This time it looks like explorers have to go in to get DNA samples from some prehistoric animals to help cure a disease. Universal really just wants to see if there is any juice left to squeeze out of this fruit. It may be time to let it sleep for a few decades before heading back in.

Superman

Superman – July 11

James Gunn takes his stab at the Man of Steel as the DC Universe reboots itself on-screen once again. Reports are that Gunn held an early screening for WB execs and that it did not go well. That could be internet fodder, but it doesn’t instill a lot of hope for the new version of the DCU. With the DC shows on the CW just wrapping up, we’ll have to see if Gunn’s Superman will connect with comic fans. The recent trailer seemed to gain a lot of views very quickly, so we at least know that fans are interested.

The Smurfs

The Smurfs Movie – July 18

Those magical little blue creatures will grace theater screens once again. This time, the film will be fully animated and musical. Paramount/Nickelodeon will take on the film, and it seems to be inspired by the popularity of the Troll movies. Rhianna will voice Smurfette and be joined by Nick Offerman, John Goodman, Kurt Russell, Dan Levy, and Hannah Waddingham.

fantastic four first steps

The Fantastic Four: First Steps – July 25

Marvel’s first family finally makes their way into the MCU. While they have been on-screen before as part of Fox’s Marvel movies, this time, we’ll see what the MCU has in store for the group. Marvel’s third film in six months will really test if audiences are in superhero fatigue or not. The early footage shown at Comicon seems fun, so hopefully, it will bring something new.

Liam Neeson, The Naked Gun remake

Naked Gun – August 1

Liam Neeson is hoping to try something drastically different than we’ve seen from him before. He has some big shoes to fill, as Leslie Nielsen based the whole second half of his career on the original Naked Gun. It will be hard to see anyone else trying to play that role. Plus, does that type of comedy have a place anymore?

Freakier Friday

Freakier Friday – August 8

Disney’s calendar of releases this year is crazy, as we see the reteaming of Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. The last film was a remake of an old Disney Classic. Now, twenty-one years later, we are getting a sequel. Expect more body-swapping jokes as the Lindsay Lohan resurgence seems to be taking shape. She’s been on an upswing lately, and hopefully, we can see her get a victory lap as she has matured.

Nobody

Nobody 2 – August 15

Somehow, Bob Odenkirk became an action star after starring in Nobody back in 2021. Now, we get to see some more middle-aged dad action as he returns for this sequel. The first movie really worked to show what appears to be an ordinary man who decides to get back into a life he left a long time ago. Now that we have seen him for what he really is, here’s hoping for more action and more Christopher Lloyd running around with a shotgun.

Downton Abbey a new era review

Downton Abbey 3 – September 12

The third film spin-off of the popular period drama. Many of the cast return to once again play their characters, showing the divide between the upper class and the working class. This drama captivated audiences when it first premiered, and both previous films have been big hits. It only makes sense to keep it going with another film.

Tron Ares

Tron: Ares – October 10

We’re traveling back into the world of Tron. Jeff Bridges is back, along with a slew of other familiar faces like Jodie Turner-Smith, Evan Peters, and Jared Leto. This time, a program is sent from the digital world to the real world. Each Tron film so far has pushed the boundaries in terms of special effects and technical marvels. Let’s see what they come up with this time.

Mortal Kombat

Mortal Kombat 2 – October 24

We’re heading back to the arcade, so get your quarters ready. The reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise continues as our heroes are heading back to Outland to continue the fight for all existence. The last film was released during the pandemic, so a true gauge of the popularity is hard to judge, but audiences seem to have a positive response. During the initial film franchise run, the second entry pushed it off a cliff. We can hope they learned their lesson.

Now You See Me 3, release

Now You See Me 3 – November 14

Another entry into the magic mystery franchise is in the pipeline. All of our sleight-of-hand artists are returning, but no plot has been released so far. The previous movies have gained an audience through their unique use of stage magic and illusions to foil their adversaries. It is a fun and interesting way of doing a mystery based action film. If it lives up to the previous entries, then audiences should leave the theater happy.

Wicked: Part Two, Wicked: For Good

Wicked: For Good – November 21

The second part of the recent smash hit. Those who haven’t seen the Broadway play or read the book will get to see how the story ends. I expect more fantastic songs, some great visuals, and more Oz. We all need all the Oz we can get. Let’s all get ready to defy gravity once again.

2025 Movie Preview

Zootopia 2 – November 26

Disney has quite the release schedule this year, and we’re not even done yet. Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde are teaming up to solve a wild case that could change their entire lives. It will be fun to travel back into the world of Zootopia and see where the characters are. It looks like more of the same fun we had in the last film.

Zoe Saldaña, Avatar: Fire and Ash

Avatar: Fire And Ash – December 19

It’s time to head back to Pandora. Last time James Cameron dealt with water motifs and explored more of the world. Looks like we’ll be dealing with fire this time around. While the films seem to always be a wonder of motion capture and CGI, it would be great to see Cameron go back to other projects before his film career comes to an end. We can always hope.

Spongebob Squarepants

The SpongeBob Movie: Search For SquarePants – December 19

Hey Kids! SpongeBob is back with another movie. This time, he will explore the depths of the ocean to deal with the ghost of the Flying Dutchman. This franchise just keeps engaging generation after generation. At this point, The Simpsons might be about the only animated franchise that has lasted longer. As long as fans keep checking out the movies, the more they will keep making.

The Accountant 2, release date

Christian Wolff, Ben Affleck’s character from the 2016 action thriller The Accountant, will be returning to the big screen next year – and his comeback is going to be a violent one. The Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that they’ve given The Accountant 2 an R rating for strong violence, and language throughout. That happens to be the same rating the first movie received, for the exact same reasons. Coming our way from Amazon MGM Studios, the film is scheduled to be released on April 25, 2025. That puts it in direct competition with the video game-inspired horror movie Until Dawn, and means it will be in theatres for one week before the Marvel movie Thunderbolts* arrives.

Are you glad to hear that the sequel has earned an R rating for the same reasons the first movie was rated R? Share your thoughts on this one by leaving a comment below.

The Accountant 2, release date

Per Deadline, The Accountant 2 has been slated for a theatrical release on April 25, 2025. Currently, the film doesn’t have any competition on that date, but it does arrive a week after the release of Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic and a week before the release of Marvel’s Thunderbolts*.

The official synopsis reads: “When her former boss is killed by unknown assassins, Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) is forced to contact Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) to solve the murder.

The Accountant starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations.

By the time The Accountant 2 hits theaters next year, it will have been nearly a decade since the first movie’s release. The sequel has once again been directed by Gavin O’Connor from a script by Bill Dubuque. In addition to Affleck, Bernthal, and Addai-Robinson, the film stars J.K. Simmons, Daniella Pineda, Allison Robertson, Robert Morgan, and Grant Harvey.

And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2′.

The numbers are crunching for the sequel to Ben Affleck’s 2016 film The Accountant. The film, which is on the Amazon MGM slate, has announced some new actors that have been added to the cast. Among them is Allison Robertson, Robert Morgann and Grant Harvey. According to Deadline, Daniella Pineda, known for her roles on Cowboy Bebop, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World: Dominion. She was also seen recently in the Gerard Butler/Mike Colter action film Plane. It is not yet known what role that Pineda or the other new actors will be taking.

As for the plot of The Accountant 2“The film follows Treasury Agent Marybeth Medina (Addai-Robinson), who after her boss is murdered by unknown assassins is forced to contact Christian Wolff (Affleck) to solve the murder. With the help of his estranged but lethal brother Brax (Bernthal), Chris applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle. As they get closer to the truth, the trio draws the attention of some of the most ruthless killers alive — all intent on putting a stop to their search.” (via Deadline)

In 2021, O’Connor appeared on the CinemaBlend podcast, revealing that he had just closed the deal for the sequel. He stated, “We literally just closed that deal. We’re doing The Accountant again…I’ve always wanted to do three because what, the second one’s going to be more with — we’re going to integrate his brother into the story. So there’ll be more screen time for [Jon] Bernthal in the second one. And then the third movie’s going to be, I call it, ‘Rain Man on steroids.’ The third movie is going to be the two brothers, this odd couple. The third one is going be a buddy picture.”

Affleck reveals it was also tossed around as a TV series. The Boston native said, “We’ve talked about it. There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. The Accountant grossed $155 million worldwide during its theatrical release and became the most-rented digital film of the subsequent year. Affleck and O’Connor would work together again on the basketball drama The Way Back.

Get out your whiteboard and get ready to “Beautiful Mind” with Ben Affleck for The Accountant 2! According to Deadline, Ben Affleck, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson have signed on to star in a surprise sequel to the Gavin O’Connor-directed action thriller The Accountant. The project is getting set up at Amazon MGM Studios in partnership with Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artists Equity.

As you may recall, Gavin O’Connor directed the 2016 original. The original film’s screenwriter, Bill Dubuque, is also returning to crunch more bones and numbers.

The Accountant 2, starring Ben Affleck, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, and Cynthia Addai-Robinson, is happening at Amazon MGM Studios. The Accountant focuses on a math savant, Christian Wolff (Affleck), who uncooks the books for a new client. When the Treasury Department closes in on his activities, the body count starts to rise, and Wolff uses his “special set of skills” to survive the conflict.

As for the plot of The Accountant 2, the sequel “is thrust into motion when Medina’s former boss is killed by unknown assassins, and she’s forced to contact Christian to solve the murder. With the help of his estranged but highly lethal brother Brax, Chris applies his brilliant mind and less-than-legal methods to piece together the unsolved puzzle.

And then the third movie’s going to be, I call it, ‘Rain Man on steroids.’ The third movie is going to be the two brothers, this odd couple. The third one is going be a buddy picture.”

The Accountant grossed $155 million worldwide during its theatrical release and became the most-rented digital film of the subsequent year. If you’ve not seen it, I highly recommend it. I watched the film on Netflix for the second time last year, and it’s still rips. Affleck delivers an outstanding performance, and the action elements are on point. The Accountant 2 is a film project worth getting excited about, and I hope the film finds success at the box office and with fans of the genre.

ben affleck, the accountant

Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant brought Ben Affleck in a different kind of action role. The film ended its run with a worldwide total of $155 million and a sequel was announced, but struggled to gain traction. The Accountant starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a mathematical savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. The film sported an impressive cast that included Jon Bernthal, John Lithgow, J.K. Simmons, Anna Kendrick and Jeffrey Tambor.

Industry insider Daniel Richtman has confirmed that The Accountant 2 is now a go with Amazon producing the film. Gavin O’Connor will return to direct with Ben Affleck reprising his role. Back in 2021, O’Connor appeared on the CinemaBlend podcast where he revealed that he had just closed the deal for the sequel. He stated, “We literally just closed that deal. We’re doing The Accountant again…I’ve always wanted to do three because what, the second one’s going to be more with — we’re going to integrate his brother into the story. And then the third movie’s going to be, I call it, ‘Rain Man on steroids.’ The third movie is going to be the two brothers, this odd couple. The third one is going be a buddy picture.”

Affleck reunited with O’Connor for the basketball drama The Way Back in 2020. While the creative team was brainstorming what the sequel to The Accountant would entail, Affleck reveals it was also tossed around as a TV series. The Boston native said, “We’ve talked about it. There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2′.”

The Accountant 2 Ben Affleck

It’s been nearly five years since the release of Gavin O’Connor’s The Accountant starring Ben Affleck, and although a sequel was announced less than a year later, there hasn’t been much movement on the project. While speaking on the CinemaBlend podcast, Gavin O’Connor confirmed that he “literally just closed” a deal to return for The Accountant 2.

We are doing an Accountant sequel. We literally just closed that deal. The third one is going be a buddy picture.

The Accountant starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. Gavin O’Connor confirmed that Ben Affleck would be returning for The Accountant 2, but didn’t say whether Jon Bernthal would be back as well. However, given O’Connor’s description of the second film, it’s clear that he’s banking on Bernthal returning.

The last we heard of The Accountant was that it could take on the form of a TV series instead. “We’ve talked about it,” Affleck said. “There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2′.” Now that it seems that the project has transformed back into a feature film, are you ready for The Accountant 2?

THE ACCOUNTANT starred Ben Affleck as Christian Wolff, a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world's most dangerous criminal organizations. Also starring Anna Kendrick and J.K. Simmons, THE ACCOUNTANT was a success for Warner Bros., who quickly got the ball rolling on a sequel which would find Affleck returning as well as director Gavin O'Connor and screenwriter Bill Dubuque. However, it's been several years since that announcement with little movement forward, but Ben Affleck provided an update while speaking recently with Collider, which could take on the form of a TV series instead.

"We’ve talked about it," Affleck said. "There seems to be a debate whether or not to do a TV series version of it. The scriptwriter [Bill Dubuque] has become quite successful and busy, so he’s off doing his thing. And somebody said to me, ‘Well if we could find a script that we could retrofit and make into a sequel… But that’s sort of tricky because the personality of the character is so specific, that doesn’t really work to just say, ‘Well, we used call this script Action Movie Shootout, and now we’re going to call it The Accountant 2′." The basic premise certainly lends itself to a procedural TV series, but Affleck added that he'd be more than happy to play the character on the big-screen once again.

It is one of the few movies that I’ve worked on, that I’d be thrilled to work with Gavin again and do that again. I had a great time. It was a lot of fun. It was an interesting twist on the genre and I’d love to do it.

Although the sequel to THE ACCOUNTANT continues wandering though the void of development hell, Ben Affleck and Gavin O'Connor have reunited for THE WAY BACK, a sports drama which stars Affleck as Jack Cunningham, a former high school basketball star who was on track for a bright future when he suddenly walked away from a full university scholarship and subsequently spiraled into depression and alcoholism. Years later, he reluctantly begins teaching the basketball team at his alma mater, and when the boys start coming together, he may just have what he needs to to finally confront his demons. THE WAY BACK will hit theaters on March 6, 2020.
